If you are wondering what to wear, or not to wear :), to your Boudoir session I’m here to help. While we cover a lot of this during the consultation I felt that it was good to share some Boudoir Session wardrobe tips and guidelines here.
The most important thing is – Don’t Panic! And Don’t Stress! You don’t need to go and buy a lot of new things. Unless of course you want to, but that’s different. 🙂 The point is we can definitely work with some of your favorite items as well as my extensive studio wardrobe.
But without any further delay let’s jump straight into the wardrobe tips:
Go for various styles
Having clothes that fit different styles (casual, formal, something fun and upbeat, something geeky, or something black and classy) would give is a lot more depth to work with, rather than going for 7 sets of different lingerie sets. So go for style variety rather category variety.
If it’s a maybe, it’s a NO
We all have items in our wardrobe that look beautiful, but we just don’t feel that great about how we look in them. If you don’t love the way you look in the item and you think that MAYBE we can figure out how to use it in the session, don’t bring it. If you don’t like the way you look in that outfit, it is likely you are not going to like your photos in that item.
Don’t complicate things
I personally define my style and approach as clean and minimalistic, so don’t need to complicate things. White dress shirts, large sweaters, beautiful scarves, or any other of your favorite items…. We can work with most items, just try to avoid neon colors and busy patterns.
Iron the items
Iron or dry-clean any of the items you are planning on wearing for your boudoir session to eliminate the wrinkles. I can do magical things in photoshop, but the better we prepared on the front end, the happier you will be with the final result. Also for any see-through items cut all the tags before your session.
Bodysuits
Regardless of your body type or size, one of the items that looks good on most women in boudoir session is a body suit. It elongates the body and accentuates the curves.
If you are looking to do some nude or semi nude sets it is often great to add some body jewelry. Otherwise the same rule applies: bring the items you love and feel comfortable and sexy in.
Body Jewelry
For Glamour Boudoir Sets
Classy cocktail dresses accentuating your neckline, or jeans with accent top can look sexy and confident. High fashion items you can find at Saks also can look very good for these sets.
Lingerie tips
Go for items that you find sexy. It’s ok if they are on the edge of your comfort zone. A good way to approach this is to go to the local lingerie boutique store. Not only they’ll help you find some interesting items, but they will also have you properly fitted. I’ll have a list of some of my favorite places in a different blog post.
Special consideration should be taken when buying thigh-highs. While getting them tight may look the covered area of your legs really good, it often creates a muffin look on top. We definitely don’t want. So get them to be on the bigger size, so there is a smoother transition to the skin. Also you can consider using a garter belt to add another sexy element to the look and to keep them from sliding down.
And it is important to mention that lingerie by no means is a must for a boudoir session. It’s all about what makes you feel sexy and confident. It might easily be a big sweater and sneakers, or a t-shirt and jeans.
Still have doubts?
Bring some of your top picks to the consultation and we can narrow down the selection together.
In the next week’s post I’ll talk about common body concerns people have when thinking of Boudoir Photography.
